Double Wedge Gate Valve

When selecting industrial valves for demanding applications, the double wedge gate valve stands out as a robust solution for reliable shut-off in high-pressure and high-temperature environments. This design utilizes two separate wedge discs that expand against the seats when closed, creating a tight seal that compensates for wear and thermal expansion. Compared to a standard wedge type gate valve, the double wedge configuration offers superior sealing performance under fluctuating conditions. For applications where a single-piece disc is preferred, a solid wedge gate valve provides simplicity and strength, though it lacks the self-adjusting capability of the double wedge design. Meanwhile, a flexible wedge gate valve offers a one-piece disc with a cut to allow slight deformation, bridging the gap between solid and double wedge styles. The double wedge variant is often the preferred choice for steam, oil, and gas services where operational reliability is non-negotiable.

Built to withstand rigorous industrial cycles, the double wedge gate valve delivers consistent performance through its parallel outer wedge and inner wedge assembly. When the valve is closed, the stem forces the two wedges apart, pressing them firmly against both seat rings simultaneously. This mechanism not only ensures a bubble-tight shut-off but also reduces the risk of galling and seat damage during operation. Double Wedge Gate Valve units are available in a wide range of sizes, pressure classes, and materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steels, making them adaptable to various media such as superheated steam, boiler feedwater, and hydrocarbon streams. The design also facilitates in-line maintenance in many models, as the seat rings can be replaced or resurfaced without removing the valve body from the pipeline.

This valve type is engineered with a non-rising stem (NRS) or rising stem (OS&Y) configuration depending on installation requirements. The double wedge mechanism minimizes seat friction during opening and closing, extending service life even in high-cycle applications. Actuation options include manual handwheel, gear operator, electric actuator, and pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders, all mountable to the standard ISO 5211 top flange. Double wedge gate valves from our range are supplied with full material traceability (EN 10204 Type 3.1) and are suitable for critical services under API 600 trim specifications. Customizable features such as bypass arrangements, drain ports, and special coatings are available for severe service environments.
